NIGHTWISH Sued By Finnish Orchestra Conductor Over Unpaid Fees

January 8, 2003

Finland's NIGHTWISH are being sued by arranger/conductor Riku Niemi over unpaid fees Niemi claims are owed him for his work on the group's platinum-certified "Century Child" release.

NIGHTWISH keyboardist/mastermind Tuomas Holopainen, who wrote the bulk of the material on the album, claims that the whole thing is the result of a misunderstanding and that only a verbal agreement existed contract between the band and Niemi.

"I have nothing against Riku, and I'm greatly disappointed that our co-operation has ended like this," Holopainen said. "I hope that we will reach the final resolution of this matter soon."

In related news, NIGHTWISH bassist Marco Hietala (ex-SINERGY) is currently writing the last pieces of music and lyrics for the upcoming album from his old group, TAROT.

The band, which consists of Hietala on bass/vocals, his brother Zachary on guitar, Janne Tolsa on keyboards, and Pecu Cinnari on drums, never officially broke up and have managed to play at least a couple of live gigs ever year. The group's follow-up to 1998's "For The Glory of Nothing" is due in late spring.
